Work In-Hand Workshop 4/13

Fellow horse lovers texas clinic 300x200 Work In Hand Workshop 4/13

You are invited to attend the In-Hand Workshop at Spyder Lake

April 13th from 12 – 4 pm

In-Hand Work can benefit all

Ground work allows the handler the opportunity to learn relaxation. Relaxation on the ground is equally important than in the saddle

The old masters call this “Mastery of Self”

Composure is essential in ant horsemanship

Being able to control reflexes, reactions, responses and fears of the “self” is a must

Horses will challenge a person time to time by pushing into us

In hand work gives you the skills to gain control of your horse

Control has little to do with force; it refers to the horse’s willingness to subordinate to the trainer as the leader of their partnership.

When the trainer controls her “self”, she then controls the horse.

Control on the ground gains his respect and carries over into mounted work

Remember, the horse is rarely wrong: either his interpretation of what is expected is incorrect, or he is physically unable to perform what is being asked

Always “listen” to the horses body

The horse must remain in a natural realm of his true movement; it is here he can relax and advance

Come Join us at the beautiful Spyder Lake and learn in-hand techniques that adhere to your needs and walk away with a better understanding of our equine friend

Alivio Farm

I have 2 school horses I can use that can help gauge where you are and what you need s a rider

I focus on an open, relaxed and balanced rider position and the school horses give the answers by feel when the rider is semi correct.

My teaching allows the rider to feel when they are well balanced with the horse and we go form there.

Most horses who get “stuck” and are not able to progress are usually out of balance. In my experience, an unbalanced horse is uncomfortable and lacks the ability to progress.

This work, through balancing both horse and rider, can bring out the talents in the average horse and allow them to progress happily by always being mindful of the physical needs of the horse.

I often am amazed at how this work helps all horses, even the very challenged ones.

November 17th Workshop

The Workshop went Great!!
It was great to see some returning people and meet some new people as well!!
It was wonderful to have the opportunity to help each of you with your horses as well!
We started with a Trakehner mare and helped her understand how to release the base of the neck on the left side because she would brace against the touch of the hand and puff her chest out. She was able to focus more on the person and learn to relax and come around.
The next was an Andalusian mare who loaded her left shoulder and would spin the haunches out every time you put contact on the line (with a caveson on). We worked on teaching the mare how to soften to the contact and move straight on a circle without bracing the neck and falling in on the left shoulder. With much succes she responded very quickly. We proceeded to get her shoulders straight and see how elegant her gait was at the trot.

The next was a Connamara mare who had a hard time moving off the right shoulder. We went through various exercises to help her soften and move forward yielding the right side. We worked on some lunging techniques to help her stretch along the topline and use her hindquarters in a manner that allowed her to carry her shoulders and reach out and round in the neck and shoulders.
The last was a Lusitano gelding who wanted to barge on top of the person. We redirected him back and away, yielded the left shoulder until he figured out how to move away with out falling on the left shoulder or leaning on the person. We also succeeded in helping his walk, he was having trouble establishing a 4 beat walk. Through straightness and releasing the base of the neck, he was much more balanced. He was then much softer in the hand (contact with the lunge line connected to the caveson).
A great success!
Looking forward to the next Workshop, December 8th.

Happy Thanksgiving!!!

Tina:)
